I’m conducting ongoing recruitment for a consultation group aimed at recent graduates (up to 6 years post grad) of counseling and social work programs. The group will be 4-8 members and ideal candidates will be curious about the psychodynamic elements at play in a clinical setting, open to a beginner's mind and seeking community as you begin your clinical career.
My intention is to foster a low-stakes environment where questions can be asked, curiosity explored and ideas challenged. Members will be asked to bring clinical material for group discussion as well as a desire to share something of yourself with fellow group members.
The group will be organized around the idea that knowing yourself and letting others know you is foundational to sound clinical practice. As such, in addition to the functions of a typical consult group, this group will also focus on the use of the self as a clinical instrument. This will involve self disclosure and an interest in being curious about how your clinical work impacts and resonates (or doesn’t) with your own lived experience.
The group will also devote time to the details of managing a psychotherapy practice and the administrative functions central to launching or maintaining your business.
Finally, this will be an “experience forward” group. There will not be an emphasis on reading materials outside of group. Neither will there be a heavy emphasis on intellectual explorations of different psychodynamic theories. Instead, the consultation and learning you do will be in the interactions you have with me and fellow group members. Members are asked to make an initial 6 month commitment to group attendance.
